Slaughter and May Open Day with WCAN!
On Thursday, the 19th of November, we hosted an exclusive WCAN Open Day at Slaughter and May.
This event was an amazing event that succeeded in bringing together aspiring Black female lawyers. The day was packed with interactive sessions where attendees learned about Slaughter and May, their international scope, and their unique multi-specialist approach and heard directly from current trainees and lawyers at Slaughter and May, who shared insights into their work.
Attendees first learned all about Slaughter and May in a Welcome to the Firm Session, where they heard all about Slaughter and May’s international scope, client base and breadth of work in addition to the firm’s collaborative culture evidenced by their non-competitive working environment and open door policy.
Next, our members had Lunch and toured with trainees, where they heard more about life at the firm at an intimate and personable level. Following this, attendees were taken on a tour of the office and learned more about the close work dynamic between trainee and supervisor.
After this, attendees were fortunate enough to hear about one of Slaughter and May’s big deals. Attendees were left with a strong understanding of the technical knowledge necessary to ensure a thriving legal career.
Shortly after, Slaughter and May firm representatives joined our members for a Life as a Lawyer panel and Q&A and Afternoon Tea. From hearing about their dynamic journeys into law, their legal career advice and personal insights into the firm, it was great to see our members engaging and speaking with the panellists, forming those necessary connections and developing a strong understanding of what a career in law truly entails at Slaughter and May.
Finally, we ended the day with a CV & Interview skills workshop. This workshop was a brilliant end to the day as it broke down how to structure CVs and highlight your key skills and experiences. Talking through common candidate mistakes and engaging in an open discussion around general CV and interview skills served as a truly invaluable experience that surely set the tone for our members’ future applications with Slaughter and May!
This was truly an excellent event that offered our members an intimate look into Slaughter and May and provided insights into their responsible business strategy, training programme, life at the firm and more!
Deadlines are still open for Slaughter and May’s Spring Open Day and Spring Forward Programme, so if you are a first-year law student or second-year law student on a four-year degree, then ensure you send your applications by clicking this link.
